Rethinking Gender for Inclusive Institutions

Dr. Eugenia Cheng is a mathematician, pianist, public speaker, and author of the book external pagex+y: A Mathematician's Manifesto for Rethinking Gender. She will discuss how mathematics can help us understand gender inequality, and other kinds of inequality, and proposes a conceptual framework to forge a path out of division and exclusion.

The conversation with Dr. Eugenia Cheng will be moderated by Marcy Goldberg, Zurich-​based cultural commentator and lecturer in media, gender and cultural studies.

As a Scientist in Residence at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and an Honorary Visiting Fellow of City, University of London, Dr. Cheng specializes in category theory, which she aptly describes as the mathematics of mathematics. She is renowned for her ability to explain complex mathematical ideas in simple and accessible ways and is the author of several popular mathematics books including, the widely acclaimed How to Bake Pi and Beyond Infinity.
