KFPE annual conference: decolonizing swiss research collaborations

This year's KFPE conference is all about decolonising research partnerships. NADEL's Medinat Malefakis, Jasmine Neve and Shruti Patel contribute to the conference and the accompanying workshop programme.

The external page Commission for Research Partnerships with Developing Countries (KFPE) is gearing up for its annual conference in Bern on May 5th, 2023. This year's focus is on decolonizing research partnerships, a topic that has gained awareness due to persisting colonial legacy-related prejudice, repression, and inequalities in society and academia.

The conference will explore three fundamental questions:

  • What does it mean to decolonize research collaborations?
  • What is needed to decolonize Swiss research collaborations?
  • What can we do to decolonize research, teaching and collaborations?

The conference comprises an interactive programme in Bern on May 5th and a series of online workshops from April 19th to May 31st.

Among other things, the conference programme features a group discussion on decolonizing academic and research institutions as well as a panel with a special focus on Swiss research institutions with NADEL's Medinat Malefakis (May 5 in Bern).

In addtion, NADEL's Jasmine Neve and Shruti Patel will give an online workshop on "Decolonising Language & Word Choice" to examine linguistic bias in research and the implications of word choice in the global cooperation field (May 11, online).

To participate in the conference or workshops, participants must register before April 28th and five days before the workshop they want to attend.
