Public Panel: Financing the Agenda 2030

Development banks could be drivers of sustainable development, but their business model is in urgent need of reform. On 2 May 2023, experts from the public and the private sector and from ETH will discuss what is needed to unlock the full potential of development banks.

Discover the little-known giants of innovation and sustainability – development banks. These government-owned entities have financed innovation, promoted financial inclusion, and supported infrastructure for decades. And now, with the challenges to achieve the 17 Sustainable Development Goals and the urgent need to accelerate the energy transition, development banks are more crucial than ever.

But are they living up to their potential? Unfortunately, their operational model is outdated, and they could be doing much more.

Join us for a panel discussion featuring experts from the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs, Thomas Lloyd Group, SwissRe, the ETH Climate Finance and Policy Group and ETH NADEL.

To kick off the panel discussion, NADEL's Chris Humphrey exposes the core argument of his new book Financing the future – multilateral development banks in the changing world order of the 21stcentury.

Discover what is needed to unlock the full potential of development banks as drivers of sustainable development.
