New course on sustainable development for ETH-students
In the fall semester 2019, NADEL and ETH for Development (ETH4D) is offering a new course - “Sustainable Development - Bridging Art and Science” - targeting students from all disciplines. The course featured four recently released films, which will be discussed with researchers and policy makers.

The course is organized over four evenings, and is credited with 1 ETCS upon a passed semester assignment. Queen of Katwe (2016)

Queen of Katwe is based on the true story of a young girl from the streets of rural Uganda whose world rapidly changes when she is introduced to the game of chess. After the film we will discuss the role of aspirations for poverty reduction with the economist and entrepreneur Kobbina Awuah.

Anote’s Ark portrays the harsh realities of climate change for people in low-lying pacific islands and is set against the backdrop of international climate negotiations and the fight to recognize climate displacement as an urgent human rights issue.

Disturbing the peace (2016)

Disturbing the peace follows the "combattants for peace" a group of former Israeli soldiers and Palestinian fighters who have laid down their weapons and are working together through non-violence to end one of the oldest conflicts of our time. Inbal Ben-Ezer, "combattants for peace" member and Program Advisor of the ETH MAS in Mediation in Peace Processes will discuss the movie after.
