FAQ CAS

You need to document at least two years of work experience in international cooperation, including sustainable development, development cooperation, corporate social responsibility, migration or similar. Upon review of the application dossier, relevant work experience of lesser duration may be accepted in exceptional cases. 

No, but a brief orientation talk with a NADEL employee is obligatory prior to enrolment. At this meeting you learn more about how the programme functions, and can discuss timeline, selection of subjects and other questions you may have.  

Yes. The application for the CAS programme and the registration for individual courses can be done simultaneously.

No. The tuition fee (CHF 730) is charged by ETH’s School for Continuing Education in the first semester (October or March). The individual course fees will vary according to the number of days/ETCS credits and will be charged directly when registering for the course.  

No. The tuition fee for the CAS program is CHF 730 and is only charged in the first semester. In the following semesters, you will only have to pay the fee for each course you attend.
 

No. The courses we offer vary from semester to semester, and the current study programme is available on our website. Typically, courses are offered on an annual or bi-annual basis.  

No, you won’t be registered automatically for the same course. A new registration is necessary for each semester.  

Students must earn a minimum of 15 ECTS points to complete the CAS. This translates to at least six courses: Project Cycle Management (compulsory) plus one additional course on managing projects and processes, Contemporary Development Debate (compulsory) plus one additional course on sustainable development, and at least two additional elective courses.

From the time of enrolment, you have three years to complete the CAS programme.  

Individual course participants who wish to change to the CAS programme must submit the CAS application within the same semester in which they are attending their first course. If the registration comes later, the courses you have participated in can no longer be credited towards the CAS.  

CAS students who want credits for their course to count towards the CAS will have to pass a "performance record" for all courses. There will either be an exam during the examination week (January for the Autumn Semester, June for the Spring Semester) or assignments during the course. Assignments and exams are graded pass/fail. Most courses offer an assignment during the course.

The Administration Office will send out an invitation to register for exams to all students who have participated in one or several courses in the respective semester.

ETH does not offer the option of online exams. The exams are written and take place in the seminar room at NADEL in Clausiusstrasse 37, 8092 Zürich.
