Reinventing Society for an Inclusive World

Join our conversation with Rutger Bregman on 1 December 2021 to explore why the narrative about the nature of human beings is up for a revision and what this implies for global cooperation.

Conversation with Rutger Bregman. 1 December 2021, 16:30 CET at ETH Zurich, HG E3.

Narratives control our minds. Continuously repeated narratives about the nature of human beings or the role of the state are so powerful because they become unquestioned “common sense”. By looking at history, external page Rutger Bregman challenges the taken-for-granted narrative about the selfish, utility-maximizing nature of human beings that informs how we organize society and policies. Beneath the thin veneer of civilization, the historian Bregman discovers not necessarily a malignant, barbaric being at all, but a fundamentally good one.
