«Treffpunkt Science City»: Overcoming inequality

How does inequality arise, what do we Swiss have to do with it, and what can we do to fight poverty and inequality? These and other questions will be the subject of «Treffpunkt Science City» in autumn 2021.

Comparison of the housing conditions of the poor and the rich: On the left side one can see a luxurious villa with a pool, on the right a corrugated iron hut.

Wealth is unequally distributed around the world. While the richest one percent of all people own around half of all wealth, one in ten lives in extreme poverty. But what are the causes of this inequality and how can we overcome them?

These are the questions addressed by this year's autumn programme of «Treffpunkt Science City – Arm und Reich». The free educational offering from ETH Zurich will take place from October 31 to November 28 and will include lectures, panel discussions, workshops and guided tours (only in German). NADEL and the Development Economics Group are also involved in various events.
