Advanced Monitoring and Evaluation in Learning Organizations

Course objective:
The course builds on participants’ advanced understanding, skills and experiences of how to develop, introduce and appraise complex monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL) processes and practices across organizations’ global portfolios. This includes focusing on how M&E contributes towards learning organizations. It is also relevant for those trying to enhance existing M&E processes and/or supporting partners to develop and implement effective M&E. The course is intended for those who are advanced in M&E. It has been designed to work through some of the complex challenges in doing MEL with other experienced practitioners.

Please note: Course participants must be advanced in working with MEL concepts and processes. The course instructor will contact participants ahead of the course in order to assess their thematic knowledge and – if needed – provide material to update participants' knowledge prior to the course.

  • Digitalization, including customized and open source solutions
  • Institutionalization, including internal approval procedures and policymaking
  • Capacity building, including resources, principles and strategies to support senior management, staff teams and implementing partner organizations
  • Practice examples from different development organizations that illustrate some of the results as well as challenges in terms of global MEL processes
  • Strategies and tools to help participants to act as ‘agents of change’ within their own organizations
