Course objective:
The course introduces results-oriented planning and monitoring of projects in development cooperation. Participants work through the various steps and analyses in planning, including problems, objectives and roles of stakeholders during context analysis. Participants learn how to design and implement a results-oriented monitoring system, focusing on outcome monitoring and corresponding project reporting and steering. By using real-life project examples and conducting individual and group exercises, the course encourages participation and peer learning, and establishes the link to participants’ own working realities.

Key topics:

  • Basic concepts of results-oriented project cycle management (PCM)
  • The logical framework approach (LFA) as the standard management tool for project planning, monitoring, reporting and evaluation
  • Methods and instruments needed for project planning, including context analysis, results chain analysis and the logframe matrix
  • Methods and instruments needed for project monitoring, including the development of a monitoring system based on indicators for assessing the achievement of objectives
  • Use of monitoring results for project progress reporting and steering adjustments
